What the 12th Man needs to know for the game.
Season Scouting Report Ole Miss (10/12/2013) Last Year    7-6 (one of their best seasons in a LONG time)    Broke a 16 game SEC conference losing streak     We beat Ole Miss 30- 27 (even with 6 turnovers…)  This Year    3-2    Started off the season winning three straight (first time since 1989)    Lost their last two games o   Alabama (25-0)    After Rebel QB said in an interview, “we will definitely put points on the board” against Alabama….Ole Miss was shut out       Also described the Ole Miss receiving group as “better than A &M’s receivers”   o   Auburn (30-22)    Bo Wallace threw for two interceptions (after having not thrown any in the first 4 games)    Receivers dropped 6 passesOffense    Type o   Rank 54 th nationally in offense (out of 125) o   Even number of running plays to passing plays o   Only convert 39.1% of third down conversions    Quarterback     Bo Wallace    Throwing for 59%    Not a very good runner (averages 1.9 yards per run)    (This includes sacks though)    Running-backs o   Jeff Scott     Very talented running-back     424 yards    Only 5’7”   o   Barry Brunetti    Has not rushed for many yards, but has scored most of therushing touchdowns    Has accounted for 18% of Rebel touchdowns    Can also pass (on trick plays)  o   62% of touchdowns come from rushing o   Bo Wallace has the second most rushing yards (behind Scott)    Wide Receiver o   Donte Moncrief     Described by Bo Wallace as being “better than Mike Evans”.    Junior    355 yards this season    6’3”      Accounted for 25% of Rebel touchdowns o   Laquon Treadwell    Freshman    250 yards    6’3”   o   Evan Engram    211 yards    Tight End o   Young, thin, and inexperienced o   Lost their best one to academics    Offensive Line o   Lots of depth and lots of veterans    Strengths o   Jeff Scott and the running game (don’t underestimate B runetti also)    Weaknesses o   Dropped passes in recent games (part of why pass completion is at 59%) o   Bo Wallace not a good runnerDefense    Type o   Run a 4-2-5 defense, sometimes a three-man front in passingsituations o   40 th in the national by yards/game allowed o   19 th nationally for pass defense o   82 nd nationally for rush defense o   Allow most points to be scored in the second and third quarters o   Take chances and blitz a lot to make up for their lack of size (sounds familiar…)   o   Expected to play a zone pass coverage against us o   Defense is still pretty banged up after playing Alabama and thenAuburn    Defensive Line o   Rotate 4 defensive tackles o   Lack of size should let us have a good run game o   Robert Nkemdiche (DE) was the #1 recruit in the nation last year  o   Only have 5 sacks this year so far (one sack per game)    Linebacker o   Serderius Bryant     Leads the team in tackles o   Have had some injuries at this position    Cornerback  o   Mike Hilton and Senquez Golson are the two usual starters    However, they are both only 5’10” and will struggle to cover Mike Evans o   Derrick Jones    Freshman    Might see more playing time this game though because he is 6’3” and would be a better matchup against Evans    Defensive Back  o   Cody Prewitt     Second most tackles for Ole Miss o   Mike Hilton o   Trae Elston    Plays nickelback     Strengths o   Pass coverage (this will change this game due to the size of ourreceivers)    Weaknesses o   Rush defense    Size of their defensive line and linebackers makes it hard to stop the rush (sounds familiar too…)      4 of their top 5 tacklers are defensive backs o   Very short veteran cornerbacks, tall rookie cornerbacks o   Injuries at linebackerSpecial Teams    Made 6/8 field goals (75%)    Average 45.2 yards per punt     Average 14.4 yards per kickoff and 6.3 yards per punt returnKey Players    QB — Bo Wallace    WR — Donte Moncrief and Laquon Treadwell    RB — Jeff Scott Key Matchups    Our run defense against Jeff Scott  o   Jeff Scott is a small, fast, and very talented running-back. With KirbyEnnis gone from our defensive line, things could get interesting.     Receivers vs Receivers o   Since Bo Wallace decided to trash talk our receivers, look for ourreceivers to be extra determined this game.    Donte Moncrief and Laquon Treadwell vs our cornerbacks o   Our cornerbacks will be tested this week. What to Watch For    How will our defense respond? o   Our defense has had two weeks to regroup, learn, and heal. Will thetime off help them better learn assignments, work on fundamentals, and recover?    Trey Williams o   This will be the first game that Trey Williams is back at 100% healthand he will be going against a defense that is better at pass defensethan rush defense.    Our defensive line…   o   Losing Kirby Ennis hurts. It hurt enough to slightly adjust the bettinglines on Vegas upon the announcement that he would not be playing(by half a point). How much will it hurt though?    4 th Downs o   Hugh Freeze LOVES to go for it on fourth downs. He has neglectedpunting something like 16 times this season already. Look for BarryBrunetti (or Jeff Scott) to run the ball on 4 th down from time to time.    Our pass rush o   One key to winning this game will be to put pressure on Bo Wallace. With him being a veteran QB and having very talented receivers, wecannot let him pick our defense apart.    Turnovers o   Last year we had 6 turnovers against Ole Miss. This year we have apositive turnover margin of 1 per game. Ole Miss has turnover marginof 0 (had 7 turnovers and forced 7 turnovers). What Else You Should Know    Kirby Ennis is out for the season o   Torn ACL. This could conclude his career at Texas A&M.    Floyd Raven o   To quote Kevin Sumlin, “Raven is probably probable for the Ole Miss game”. Not sure what this means…I think that is the point…      Ole Miss 2 nd Quarter Struggles o   Ole Miss has had dismal second quarters. They have been outscored50-20 so far this season. We average 12.4 points in the secondquarter.    Texas Aggies Best Quarters o   Our best offensive quarters are first and third. o   Our best defensive quarters are first and fourth.
