  GENERAL INFORMATIONDARMASISWA RI PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN STUDENTSACADEMIC YEAR 2011/2012 DARMASISWA is a scholarship program extended by the government of the Republic ofIndonesia to foreign students from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations. Theprograms offered are: Indonesian language, arts, traditional music, traditional dance andcrafts. Participants can choose their place of study from the list with the participatinguniversities and colleges.The main purpose of the DARMASISWA program is to promote and foster the interest in theIndonesian language and culture among citizens of friendly countries and to reciprocatescholarship programs provided by other countries for Indonesian citizens, being at the sametime one element of cultural diplomacy.The DARMASISWA program is essentially a non-degree program of one year or less. Theparticipants are prohibited from engaging in any political and/or business activities whichmay result in destabilizing governmental programs or lead to personal profit/gain. I. PROGRAM1. DARMASISWA RI REGULAR PROGRAM  – 1 (ONE) YEAR Regular one-year program is an one-year scholarship program for foreignstudents from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations to studyBahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language) or local language, traditional music,dance and craft in selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions. 2. DARMASISWA RI REGULAR PROGRAM  – 6 (SIX) MONTHS Regular six-months program is a six-months scholarship program for foreignstudents from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations to study  Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language) in selected Indonesian HigherEducation Institutions. II. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS1. RIGHTS OF THE PARTICIPANTS a. Free of tuition.b. Allowance from the Ministry of National Education.c. Assistance from the higher education institution to look for rentalhouse/boarding house.d. The participants will be welcomed at the airport upon arrival. 2. OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS a. Participants are willing to assist the nearest university/higher educationinstitution or school in teaching foreign languages or other academic activities.b. Participants have to complete all the scheduled classes.c. Participants have to sign the letters of declaration given by the IndonesianEmbassies or Consulates General before departure time to Indonesia and bythe Ministry of National Education after arrival time in Indonesia. The contentof the letter is the following:Participants shall obey all the regulations applied in the higher educationinstitution.Participants shall not demand any change related to the field of study orthe place of study before or after being in Indonesia.Participants shall not do criminal actions in any kind or form.Participants shall not engage in any political activities during the period ofstudy or work during the period of their stay in Indonesia.Participants shall not involve into the drugs abuse.During the period of study, the participants are not allowed to go on morethan one trip abroad from Indonesia.Participants are prohibited to bring family during the period of study inIndonesia.Participants shall be willing to be repatriated if they break the regulationsmentioned above and all regulations due to stay permit in Indonesia.  III. SCHEDULE OF THE PROGRAM 1. All the candidates’ applications shall be received by the Ministry of NationalEducation through the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General as well as bythe Higher Education Institution of place of study at the end of February 2011 .2. The selection shall be conducted on the middle of March 2011.  3. The announcement will be on the beginning of April 2011.  4. The c onfirmation of participants’ agreement is on the beginning of June 2011.  5. The arrival of participants shall be on the beginning of August 2011.  6. The orientation program shall be conducted on the beginning of August 2011.  7. The classes will be conducted from middle of August 2011 until July 2012.  8. For the participants whose place of study is the University of Indonesia, theclasses will be conducted on the beginning of July 2011.  9. For the participants of DARMASISWA RI regular six-months program, classeswill be conducted from August 2011 until January 2012.   IV. VISA ARRANGEMENT The visa used for joining this program is a Socio cultural-Visit Visa  that can beobtained through the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in the country where theparticipants live. This visa should be converted to a Stay-Permit  for 1 (one) year uponarrival in Indonesia through facility of the Secretariat of State of the Republic ofIndonesia and the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and HumanRights.The participants are prohibited to use the Tourist Visa  to study in Indonesia, since itwill have effect in processing the Stay-Permit. V. ACCOMMODATION The Ministry of National Education does not provide accommodation for theparticipants. VI. THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE The participants will receive a monthly allowance of Rp. 1.500.000,00 (one millionand five hundred thousand rupiah).  Since the given allowance could not cover all the daily needs of the participants, theparticipants are advised to bring additional money in US dollar for unexpectedadditional expenses in Indonesia. VII. PROCEDURES OF THE PROGRAM 1. Submit the application to the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General wherethe participants live, after having filled the application form which is available atthe Indonesian embassies or consulates general.2. Do the on-line registration at website:www.darmasiswa.diknas.go.id along with attached letter of recommendation from the Indonesian Embassy or ConsulateGeneral. VIII. QUALIFICATIONS OF THE APPLICANTS Applicants shall:1. Fill in the application form.2. Have completed secondary education or its equivalent.3. Submit a copy of the academic transcript.4. Be not more than 35 years old.5. Be in a good health as proven by medical certificate.6. Submit 5 (five) photos sized 4 x 6 cm each.7. Submit a full-page copy of passport valid for at least 18 more months.8. Have a good knowledge of English.All the candidates ’ applications can be addressed to: 1.
